Project Introduction

407 Training Visa is a visa for participants who requires job skills training courses, higher education research courses, professional field training, and vocational training programs offered by Australian companies.

This visa is for training purposes, allowing the holders to work full-time for a designated employer in Australia within the validity period, and must not engage in work unrelated to the training content. Generally, the visa is valid for 1 to 2 years.

If your 485 visa is expiring or you have applied for a 485 visa before, you can apply for 407 visa to have extra 1-2 years to complete the skill assessment
Paid training, spouse and children can apply for 407 visa with the main applicant, the spouse has work rights and can change employers

3 types of occupational training

Occupational training required for registration (Applicable to training for the purpose of completing registration/professional qualifications, such as lawyers and nurses, etc.)
Occupational training to improve skills in an eligible occupation (For applicants who want to improve their professional skills)
Occupational training for capacity building overseas. This includes overseas qualifications, government support or professional. (For applicants who need to go overseas for capacity-building training)
Generally speaking, for most applicants who want to continue to gather work experience in Australia, they usually take the second stream in the 407 visa. Currently, all occupations on the STSOL and MLTSSL lists can apply for this type of visa.

Application Requirements

Your sponsor must be approved as a temporary activities sponsor.
Your sponsor must have nominated you to participate in a program of occupational training unless your sponsor is an Australian Commonwealth Government agency. Nomination requirements are different depending on the purpose or type of training.
You must be 18 years old or older at the application time.
If you are applying in Australia, you must currently hold a valid temporary substantive visa that is not a:
A Subclass 403 (Temporary Work (International Relations) visa in the Domestic Worker (Diplomatic or Consular stream)
A Subclass 771 (Transit) visa
A Special Purpose visa
If you are in Australia and do not hold a substantive visa, your last substantive visa must not have been one of the above visas and your application must be made within 28 days:
After the last substantive visa you held ceased to be in effect
After the day you were notified of the Administrative Appeal Tribnual's decision to set aside and substitute the decision to cancel your substantive visa, or the Minister's decision not to revoke the cancellation of your substantive visa.
You and any family members who apply for the visa with you must meet the health requirement.
You and family members aged 16 years and over who apply for the visa with you must meet our character requirement.
You are personally liable for all your healthcare costs while you are in Australia. Medical insurance helps limit your financial liability. You must maintain adequate health cover for the whole of your stay if you are granted this visa. Your insurance should cover you for medically necessary treatment, including transport.
You must only intend stay temporarily in Australia and do the things you are allowed to do on this visa. You must have substantially complied with the conditions of the last substantive or subsequent bridging visa that you held. • You must have functional English.

If you are 18 years of age or older, you must have read, or had explained to you, the Life in Australia booklet and sign an Australian Values Statement that confirms you will respect the Australian way of life and obey Australian laws.
If you or any family members (including those who don't apply for the visa with you) owe the Australian government money, you or they must have paid it back or arranged to pay it back.
You might not be eligible for this visa if you have had a visa cancelled or refused while you were in Australia.
This visa might not be granted if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.
