Project Introduction

This visa allows the partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. You apply for the temporary and the permanent partner visas together.

Subclass 309 lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia temporarily. Getting this visa is the first step towards a permanent Partner visa (subclass 100).

Subclass 100 lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, live in Australia permanently. It is usually granted to people who hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 309).

Assessment of the situation of the applicant and sponsor

Relationship evidence collection and visa documents preparation

Submit 309/100 partner visa application

Approved 309 visa

Retain and collect relationship evidence during the 2-year relationship study period

After meeting the two-year examination period, i.e. two years after submitting the 309/100 application, 100 visa materials will be added
